I hope Robb, Milker, and the rest of the Denver crew pirated the latest Batman film and were not at last night's showing.

Everyone I know is fine - so far.
Milker was working on his haunted house. I -- Jesus. I played pinball and arcade games all night.
You know how in detective novels, the wife of the dead guy doesn't want to admit to the cops that she couldn't have killed her husband because she was fucking some other guy? This isn't like that at all. But we were doing far nerdier things.
I don't want to imply that this was extremely close to me. If I were determined to see Batman at midnight, I think there would have been one or two closer movie theaters. But it IS too close for comfort. There was another shooting that was much closer to where I was, the "Jazz in the Park" fatality where the guy killed a cop.
(For that one, the gunman was still said to be roaming around, and I came to the realization that Melissa was out walking her new dog two blocks from where the killing happened.)
I haven't read any of the articles yet, just gotten text messages from Da King and Flack (thank you fellas - I do appreciate it). Flack mentioned fuckin' tear gas though?? Jesus Christ.

While I do hope the JC crew was too busy fixing Qix cabinets to attend this screening, its impossible for me to read the following from the article...
"Aurora, a Denver suburb, is about 13 miles from Littleton, Colorado -- site of the April 1999 Columbine High School massacre.
In that incident, two teenage students, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, armed themselves with guns and bombs and opened fire inside the high school. They killed 13 people and wounding 23 others before killing themselves."
And stifle an inward groan. Trying to highlight a single, random act of violence as somehow even remotely connected to another one over a decade in the past, reeks of sensationalism and someone who failed journalism 101 (give us relevant information only, pal). So... Urgh to CNN for trying to make a shooting at a Batman movie relevant to my daily life and a double Urgh for relating it to another of the most overblown mass shootings in American history.

Further information (and a picture) from someone who attended the screening and was grazed by a bullet...

Glad to hear everybody is well and accounted for.
Normally when you hear of news like this, there's no way anyone I know would be there. Like, "terrorists attack naval ship" or "gunman opens fire at yoga/sauna" ... pretty good chance my people weren't there. But when it's (a) in a town where I know people and (b) at something like the midnight showing of a comic-based movie ... there's a chance someone I knew might be there.

Reasonable theory. Happens in other animal populations as well.AArdvark wrote:I have a pet theory that the overpopulation of humanity contributes to the senseless violence that is becoming more and more prevalent in our society. It is an attempt to lessen the social pressures by eliminating some of the population.
Again, it's only a theory.

Me: yeah his parents were two of the richest people in all of Denver, the father ran a huge corporation
Wife: Really?
Me: yeah, the kid will probably be a ward of the state to, no other family

I just now saw this post. Flack man, thanks for thinking of us Colorado crew. We be ok and have placed our bat signal in the air.
This has been interesting to see unfold. It does bother me a bit as what I do with the haunt house can very likely be a target of public concern after such senseless acts. This is a whole topic I could go off on for hours about.
When asked many times for interviews and such I always speack to how I feel the haunt is simply showing violence that our society thrives on. The guy in the hummer this morning who would not let me over after signaling for a mile would probably prefer to see me dead on the side of the road then helping him wash his hummer or helping pay the taxes for the road he is driving his large piece of shit on.
I can only hope that the "video games, movies, music, was the cause" drum machine does not start up with this one. I mean typically these things come down to 2 things, a gun and a brain both of which we seem to care very little about in our society. Our mental health as a nation is only getting worse and semi automatic guns are not just for war anymore. They are good for hunting people is what I just heard recently.
I guess this means I need to hire several more armed security guards this year :(
My questions is this, as a society doesn't it seem that our anger and care for life continues to decrease? Anger seems to be rampant. What caused this?
