Blizzard. Oh my god.
Look, when SC2 first came out, I reviewed it on Caltrops and gave it a 99/100. I gave it that because it was (and is) the best game I've ever seen, but had a LEGION OF WHINERS behind it bitching about how it came short. So I took their input in mind and subtracted one point from perfection.
The latest patch, which incorporates most of the changes to the interface available in the upcoming Heart of the Swarm, I just... I just wish it had been there Day 1--
No I don't. If it'd been there Day 1, there would have been a whole other tsunami of whiny bitches yapping about how else Blizzard failed. Shoulda been available, maybe, Day... 45.
At this point, though, it's finally time for everyone to shut the fuck up. I mean there will always be balance whines anytime anyone loses to anything. That's a given.
But it's so cool now.
Look:
The new "training" mechanism works you up to learning how to play the actual multiplayer game. It does this by basically throwing "optional objectives" at you as fast as you can read them.
Look, I'm a low Gold zergie. Unless I really decide to dedicate myself, that's about where I'm gonna be. But a low Gold zergie is better than most people who will ever install this program. But that may change, because the new training thing, instead of throwing a stupid arbitrary scenario at you, MAKES YOU PLAY A GAME, and:
MAKES YOU BASICALLY DO A BUILD ORDER.
They're "optional objectives", but they are what a lot of us multiplayer veterans are already doing. And when we suck (as I do), it's actually reminding us to do stuff we may have missed ("build a new Overlord! Idiot!")
It's brilliant.
That, with the new clan system and the new group system and the new unranked multiplayer system?
Holy shit. I suppose SC2 will never get back to where it was when it came out? But I would bet on me being wrong. And the HotS changes will make tournaments and pro games way more interesting.
SC2 is still the only computer game I've ever loved. I am so excited that it's about to get like a million times better.
And I still give the original 99/100. Fuck you, Caltrops.

They're cretinous reprobates over there, do they even need a reason to act like assholes?Ice Cream Jonsey wrote:Why do you think Caltrops disliked the game?
Oh wait, you're not supposed to answer a question with a question. Okay.
They're cretinous reprobates over there, i think that it's unlikely they even need a reason to act like assholes.

Absolutely no complaints on my end - the UI changes are awesome and mimic how the original Starcraft interface functioned. Blizzard took feedback, got their shit together and pushed out a very nice looking product.
Oh hey... Should we co-ordinate our HotS activity? I'll be playing the campaign Friday night - Sunday morning without interruption and I'd love to have my favorite bud with me throughout!

(I may actually be out of town on business that week, which would actually make this work out since I'd get back on Friday.)
I am mainly looking forward to the single player campaign because I know I can beat it.
