Clue, The Ultima Version

Post by joebonk »

My next project is taking the Board game clue and making it Lord British's Castle. The avatar is summoned to fix some terrible situation, but then the lights go out. And there are some noises, then the lights go on, and well someone is dead.
Lord British, instead of allowing the avatar to continue the quest, ask that the murder be investigated. I think it can be done.
I would have to find a way for random selection of items to be found in each room. So maybe a floor tile covers up the barrel or chest containing it. But if the candlestick is always at tile 13/7 then it would give it away. So maybe there is some other way to have the weapon be discovered. I believe QA: put one of these here only works from an object and not a macro. If a macro can do it then it will work every time.
The board game was only one level but maybe or maybe not expand how many suspects there are and how many rooms there are and how many weapons there are. But if there are too many then that is a lot for the player to keep track of.
On the other hand the captain of the guards could be a sort of hawkwind who could tell the avatar if something still needs investigating.
It would be like the board game, where there is castle walls, and then a door leading to a room.
Might be worth a few laughs... It was Lord British, with the crystal ball, in the sandlebox room.

I got it. There will be more then one kitchen and more then one study. And the portal to it will ask a variable each time what room it will be.
I have never copied a room map before, (the #a, #b, #c, and #w). Does anyone know if it works for room maps?

If you can pull it off, actually sounds like a very novel idea...

The board game rules work around there being several players. There is a way to implement this. In some ways, everyone in the castle is paranoid and has to prove their innocence. People could randomly appear in various rooms. If the people are actually objects, rather then npcs. (that way they can be talked to, which won't work for summoned creatures)
On the other hand it does not have to be a race for who finds the 3 clues. Since you are the avatar, it most likely would be up to you to solve it.
Murder Objects..?
1)LB's scepter
2)sandlewood box
3)orb of the moons
4)spell book
5)crystal ball
6)blackrock sword (but better its an npc)
7)If it is a glass sword, it could be shattered.

Each character could give random story threads, but some details only appear depending on who it actually is. Careful to make several of those kinds as well so as not to give it away. Might as well put all the avatar's companions there too.

K.I.S.S. good advice, but when ACk can do so much, it's hard to resist adding more and more and more. oops
