Speedy is a red-headed kid named Roy Harper who got addicted to heroin once. Fuck this show! I'm back off.

(The protagonist on this show is named Oliver Queen. )

Some cop: "You'd pay a King's random to get your son back. Or a Queen's ransom."

ICJ'S SCRIPT-WRITING FOR FUCKING COWARDLY RETARDS 101
____________

You can just say, "A Queen's ransom."

Having watched the pilot, or first episode or whatever, it's fine.

I guess the disarming thing is that the Green Arrow has been in my life for a long time. My brother and I got different comic books when we were growing up, but that was great because we got to read more comic books.

(Ok, it would have been crazy if we both got a separate copy of Nova, I guess.)

I don't think we had a ton of Green Arrow comics, because I don't think there were a ton of Green Arrow comics in the mid 80s.

But the dude in the show is nothing like this guy:

Image

That guy has a distinct voide in my head. That guy, no matter who seems to write him, makes him sound the same. He's this flaming liberal who doesn't kill fifteen guys a night to threaten some FAT CAT. He gets into passionate arguments with Hawkman and yells at the Green Lantern and is probably wrong about the latter.

It's weird, is all.

Oh, and his eyes when he's got the domino mask are white. I hope at some point they get that part correct.

Roy comes on midway through the first season.

Calling his sister Speedy is one of the many groans of the first season.

That sums up the first season. The second season is the good one.

The first season was almost a non-comic book comic book show. It was too desperate to stick with the Christopher Nolan gritty realism. They had lots of references like the Speedy thing, but they didn't fully embrace it.

The second season is a whole different story. It is building up quite the massive DC Universe now. It's ditched the whole "Hood" thing, he's wearing his mask and guys with powers like Flash and Solomon Grundy have showed up.

If you don't like this version of Green Arrow, never read the current "New 52" version.

He wears big oversized hipster goggles, doesn't have a hood and no goatee. I can't stand to look at it.

Can I pretty much skip all the scenes with his sister in Season One? They're pretty terrible and don't go anywhere!

Probably. She's also better in season two. In the first season I hated her guts. Now she's elevated to I don't really care either way.

Actually I'd say her and Laurel switched characters between seasons. Now Laurel has become the annoying spoiled brat that's constantly bitching about something.

Lethargic! The Huntress is now in this show! I love her! She's great!

Although my favorite comic that the Huntress was in was when she was trapped on an iceberg with Max Lord, Ice and Oberon. Max used his mind-control powers to get her to be in the JLA. He was such a scumbag!

(They should have ended Justice League America with issue #60. MAN did Jurgens do a horrible, horrible job taking the book over.)

While researching this post, I saw something called Justice League: Generation Lost which was plotted by Keith Giffen. I like that guy!

Ha, this dumb show sometimes.

Green Arrow: "I think the vigilante needs a new name."
Some dickhead: "What about GREEN ARROW?"
Green Arrow: "Lame."

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuucccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccck you.

Let's use seventy years of mythology to give ourselves jobs. Let's use this comic so that we can all dress in nice suits each week. Let's then call the name of it LAME.

Everyone who works on TV scripts is a piece of garbage. God, TV is the worst medium of entertainment of all-time. Just filled to bursting with filthy fucking animals.

That stuff kinda makes sense in context of the whole thing. In that the overall arc of the show is to watch him become Green Arrow over time. When he first starts he has no interest in being a costumed crime fighter. He's just killing off that list of names and when he's done with that he's done with all of it. Over time he's slowly evolving into becoming the hero Green Arrow instead of the murdering vigilante The Hood.

But it seems like the switch is happening really fast now in this second season. Maybe they're going to throw him in the JLA movie and needed him to shape up quicker or something?

The Huntress is another character better on the show than in the current comics. They've erased that version of The Huntress completely and gone back to the pre-crisis version of Helena Wayne. She's not even in the real DC universe anymore, she's on Earth 2. Stupid multiverse crap.

The actor playing Green Arrow's friend is annoying and he is playing an awkward, annoying person. A dangerous combination! I hope they kill him off.

I understood why they did the Earth 1 Earth 2 thing. But Crisis solved that problem pretty well. Whhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyy are they still doing anything at all with that in 2013? Why do comics make it so difficult for people to enjoy them?

Also, CHRIST the women on this show.

Also, the burned-up guy in episode 10 still has a meticulously maintained designer stubble.

Kathy has continued to watch the show and maintains that it's one of the better shows on TV. I think she says it gets better the longer you wait.

I dunno nothin' about none of this so what the fuck.
Am I a hero? I really can't say. But, yes.

I wish it was the good old days of Earth 1 and Earth 2. You know the reboot was called "The New 52" because there are 52 universes now, right? That's a lot.

The IT girl character is so wacky! So quirky! She should be writing about the next Space Hulk for Rock Paper Shotgun.

THIS IS AN OUTRAGE.

I said I'd never buy another DC book until they brought Ted Kord back. They've brought every other character back. Killing him was the dumbest and most pointless thing a comic book company has ever done in my opinion. But I still try to read blogs and sites as to what is going on.

So I thought that the original 52 was them going forward one year in time and lots of crazy stuff happened like the Green Arrow being the mayor of Star City and stuff and the appeal was learning how everything got to where it was.

I am outraged that the New 52 is 52 new worlds because that is stupid and fake and lame.

Also, while I am here, (taps the mic) HELLO WHILE I AM HERE (asks three questions of the people on a panel, one of which is a long, rambling story about himself) Oliver's sister's accent is inexplicable and stupid and she should feel bad for not being able to speak properly.

11 episodes in, here is my in-motion verdict: it's gripping in parts, but some of this is downright terrible soap opera nonsense. But I am going to watch the rest of this season and next, so there ya go. I like the parts where he is on the island and I like the parts where Green Arrow shoots people in the chest with arrows. Ha ha, does that ever get old? (In all seriousness! No sarcasm, him shooting people in the face with arrows is great; it's like VAPS in Fallout 3.)

I'm just tired of him trying to use a bow and arrow WITHOUT killing. That's impossible. So I keep screaming at the television GET THE BOXING GLOVE ARROW DUMBASS but he never gets it.

Here is every line of dialogue for the IT girl.

Someone: "How are you?"

IT girl: "I'm good. Wait. I mean I am doing fine. Not that I am good sexually. Oh my God. I meant that as a statement of anxiety, not that the creator of the universe is mine."
