Amiga Emulators

Post by Ice Cream Jonsey »

Inspired by possibly running Neuromancer on it -- anyone got an Amiga emulator that they recommend? Last I knew trying to get the right Kickstart ROM was always a pain in the ass because Ghosts, Goblins, Spectres and the Ghost of whoever owns all of Amiga's IPs was GOING TO GET YOU!!!! if you distributed both at the same time.

Is it any better currently?

BONUS SIDE QUESTION: Is Starflight any better for the Amiga? Because it's in sad shape for the PC what with the corrupt save bug.

I have both WinFellow and WinUAE on my computer, but I'm pretty sure I prefer WinUAE. One still has to find the kickstart.rom somewhere, though.

Holy cow, I am surprised that WinUAE is still around. There's a critical point where emu authors almost invariably tend to shut it down. MAME has been an exception, but for most of them, they get sick of all the e-mail that they get from the truly, truly stupid and rephrensible sorts of kiddies that are out there demanding instant results.

The best thing to do if you are writing an emulator is to probably make your e-mail address not open to the public. Still need a way to contact with testers, though, I suppose.

Anyway, good to see that those guys haven't gone crazy.

In other news, Exult (the program that plays Ultima VII in 2003) is up to their 1.00 release. I missed it when it was new, apparently. I really hope they added cursor key support to it. I have spent some time with Ultima VII, but never come close to solving it.
