Exciting news
Last week the rehab hospital weighed me on the "shark scale" (a portable rack where they put me on a mat, chain the mat to the scale, and then pull the mat up off the bed until I'm clear. You literally could weigh a good sized fish like a shark, marlin or tuna on it.) and I was 401.4 pounds.
About 1/2 an hour ago they weighed me again. 353.6.
I am utterly shocked. While I can't expect this kind of weight loss to continue, (the Furosemide I'm taking for my condition is causing me to flush <s>a lot</s> a shitload of retained fluid) it does lead me to possibly see the light at the end of the tunnel. A reachable goal of 1, maybe 2 pounds a week -since I'd be seeing a doctor regulaely that high a level could be possible - losing the remaining weight might - I do say might, this is tenuous - be able to get me to "normal" weight for my size, which for a 6' 2" man is around 208, would be possibly 18 months.
Don't know if it could be that fast but it gives me a reason to believe I could be normal. Then have knee surgery and start the process of being able to walk again.
Or maybe it takes 3 years, but it looks like it might be doable and possible.
But for the moment I want to avoid bringing my hopes up too much. I've had other disappointments before, I don't want to add another one.

Honestly, that's a lot better than I thought, pal.Tdarcos wrote:Last week the rehab hospital weighed me on the "shark scale" (a portable rack where they put me on a mat, chain the mat to the scale, and then pull the mat up off the bed until I'm clear. What have you eaten since then, though? Is this still accurate?About 1/2 an hour ago they weighed me again. 353.6.
Jesus! If you end up weighing less than all of us except the Happiness Engine and Jack Straw's kids, there will be some scores to settle on your side. You'll have the upper hand on all of us!!I do say might, this is tenuous - be able to get me to "normal" weight for my size, which for a 6' 2" man is around 208, would be possibly 18 months.
Well, that would depend on which cells store the desire to quote lyrics. ;)Don't know if it could be that fast but it gives me a reason to believe I could be normal.
Great news, Paul. Keep up the good work! This is the healthiest this BBS has ever been except for in the 90s!

whoa whoa whoa. Shouldn't the wheelchair count in any total? You are bound to it correct cannot function with out it?
Anyhow, it could be a positive. Getting a lighter more efficient wheelchair for days you are having a fat day, could make it look like you melted off a few more and keep you motivated.

the last group complained, quite tellingly They said, "Why don't you have a spoon that just says 'Earth?' It would save time

I can do anything in bed that does not require me to move. I am only using the chair when I get in because I figure I need to move to do something.Knuckles the CLown wrote:whoa whoa whoa. Shouldn't the wheelchair count in any total? You are bound to it correct cannot function with out it?
I've had my chair since last Sunday; I got a 4-hour pass to go get my wheelchair, charger, usb charger and laptops. I'm going to do the same next Sunday for a couple other items.Anyhow, it could be a positive. Actually, I'd gotten it wrong; it was 401 two weeks ago; my sister reminded me that I said I was 384 last week. So it's still 30 pounds and is a more realistic weight loss as a result of water retention and possibly some fat loss.
