Steve Dalkowski, said by some to be the fastest pitcher ever. Never made the big leagues. Part of my lessons learned in being a manager, will post more about that part soon.

I'm glad this thread is still valid.

Great news! I couldn't post this when it happened because I was incommunicado.

Bishop Gerald O. Glenn of Richmond’s New Deliverance Evangelistic Church died March 27 of Coronavirus, after saying that God would protect me. He continued to preach to packed audiences. Now he and the god he prayed to both do not exist.

And let's add this one:

A Virginia pastor who downplayed the seriousness of the coronavirus as merely the media "pumping out fear" has died after contracting the virus.

Landon Spradlin, 66, a pastor and traveling musician, died on Wednesday, March 25, at a hospital in North Carolina after testing positive for COVID-19.

As first reported by Patch, nearly two weeks before his death Spradlin shared a meme on his Facebook page suggesting the media "can manipulate your life."

And now, he's no longer capable of manipulating anything.

The irony is just delicious, combined with a tasty sprinkling of schadenfreude really makes my day.

In all fairness, it looks like he was right!

Okay, what do you call it when a man who said "god is stronger than the virus" and that god would protect him, then dies from the very virus he said his god would protect him from?

Maybe tempting fate, but I still see it as irony.

I don't know what I would call that, but I know I wouldn't call it ironic. Because it isn't.

You won't but until someone proves it isn't ironic, or does have some other, exact name, I will, because it is ironic, despite your claims to the contrary. Unlike Alanis Morissette, I do know what irony is. See definition 5, in use since the 17th century.

definition 5: Contradiction between circumstances and expectations; condition contrary to what might be expected.

So,

-Atheists expected the outcome to be any number of possibilities outside an actual miracle.

-Christians expected god's will to be done.

The expected result expressed itself for both relevant parties making your examples not ironic, and this using the very argument you provided. It's time to face the music, Paul, nothing you wrote here was ironic.

No, no, no, no no, you don't get to pull that stunt, changing the definitions to serve your purpose. I want to go by what he said, not by your claims of what you think someone else thinks, That's a slimy trick usually done only by Christian apologetics.
Billy Mays wrote: Fri May 01, 2020 7:39 am -Christians expected god's will to be done.
"Wrong, sir!" We're not talking about what some unnamed, undefined "Christians" thought, expected or believed. The argument is over these two Christian ministers and their claims.

Actually the actual result in both cases was exactly ironic.
* The first guy said god was stronger than the virus and would protect him.
* The other guy said it was all hype and he would not be affected.
* Both died.
Complete opposite to their stated expectations, thus total irony. I'm only interested in them and their comments, not to other people and their expectations. Other people might have had sense and taken precautions. They didn't, and thus these two ministers became Darwin Award winners as a result of total irony.

Ahmaud Arbery, 25, died Feb. 23 in Brunswick, Georgia, of "jogging while black," in which at least two (and possibly three) armed men hunted the unarmed man, chased him down, and shot him. It took police until now to make an arrest, despite police allegedly having video of his murder from the day it happened.

Police have charged Travis McMichael who shot and killed Mr. Arbery, and his father Gregory McMichael, with murder and aggravated assault. They are also looking for the person who took the video.
