Peter Buxtun, a whistle-blower who in 1972 exposed a 40-year government experiment to track the effects of syphilis in Black men in Alabama — who were neither told that they had the disease nor offered treatment — died on May 18 in Rocklin, Calif., near Sacramento. He was 86.

Mr. Porton’s title at Monroe, coordinator of student affairs, hardly captured his impact. He collaborated with Project Bravo, an H.I.V./AIDS volunteer organization affiliated with Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, to train students to educate their peers about the disease. He dispersed health information from a minivan; devised a reading and writing curriculum to motivate students to write letters of support to patients coping with the disease; and started the AIDS Lives in Every Neighborhood Players, a group of teachers who presented dramatic productions to teenagers and community organizations.
[...] “He was a man who not only stimulated your love for learning; he taught us how to love,” Sarah Mejia, another former student, said. “I’m a teacher now, and I’m able to love my students now in a way he did.”

If the grim reaper had gotten here 50 years earlier, maybe wouldn't have generations of terrible daytime talk shows.

It took me way too long to come up with that pun, then when I went to see if anyone else had used it upon his passing, I see that his band's album titles were NOTHING BUT PUNS.
Kihnspiracy
RocKihnRoll
Kihntagious
Next of Kihn
Citizen Kihn
Kihnsolidation (best of)
Kihnplete (box set)

I never explored his library of songs beyond the radio hits I knew, but probably like many my age, I was more familiar with Weird Al's "I Lost At Jeopardy," to the point that it became the definitive version of that song for me, to the point that I almost hold the original with a little contempt, even though Weird Al's version wouldn't even exist without "Our Loves In Jeopardy" (I may be getting these titles wrong). Funny how that works.
Still, "The Breakup Song" is a great song. I probably should check out the albums at some point. Talented guy!
