Funny, but that reminds me. I actually got an advance copy of a book titled "Gone But Not Forgotten." I wrote a review of it, and that was probably 15 years ago.

Jesus, I just looked it up, it was more than 20 years ago. Written by Phillip Margoilin. the review was in May, 1993 and the book was scheduled for release some months later.

I found a "Paul William Robinson" on the Vietnam Memorial Wall.

But this is still my favorite obituary of all time, I posted it to my blog when it happened:

Title: If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try again

Francisco Solomon Sanchez was pronounced dead shortly after 4:15 p.m. Friday [June 3, 2011] after leaping from a 210 Freeway overpass between Mountain Avenue and Buena Vista Street, Los Angeles County Department of Coroner Lt. Joe Bale said.

Why is this item so important? Because this was the tenth time that Sanchez had tried to kill himself. I think it took Thomas Edison thousands of tries to find out that he needed to use tungsten as the fillament in incandescent light bulbs. He said that he hadn't failed, he simply knew of 6,000 ways not to build a light bulb.

Sanchez had jumped to his death using prosthetic legs, which he got from injuries from previous unsuccessful suicide attempts.

It's been said that suicide is self expression. What kind of message are you sending when you failed in the 9 previous attempts?

At least R. Budd Dwyer got it right the first time - and even used the opportunity in front of TV news cameras to show the world how it's done.

I remember that one. He's the Treasurer of Pennsylvania who got caught with his hand in the till, and held a press conference to announce he was resigning from his assignment, by putting a gun in his mouth and eating a bullet.

I remember how my mother complained because the newscasts that reported on the incident wouldn't show the guy's brains splattering on the wall behind him.

Die Hard didn't have that problem when Hans Gruber murdered Mr. Takagi,

Yeah - in real life suicide by handgun is fairly anticlimactic.

Take this one for example. Guy in a police station brought in for shooting a deputy wasn't fully searched and offs himself with a 1911. You'd think a .45 would blow a huge exit wound in the other side of his head.

A guy was reportedly gored to death during the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain.

He was the author of a book on how to run along with the bulls without getting injured or killed. He recommended only doing the run if you had an expert professional for a coach, such as himself.
