If anyone out there thinks Pete Rose "should be in the hall of fame" you're stupid and it's a stupid take. I will state why if anyone asks.

Sure, love to hear why if its more than gambling on his own team's games.

I apologize for using the word stupid. Nobody here is stupid.

But when you are a player, coach or ref and you gamble on the game it's no longer a sport. It's the WWE. (WWF.)

Which, in fact, has a hall of fame that Rose IS in.

If they normalize throwing games for gambling then eventually they let capitalism pick the outcomes. Then it's Lakers vs Celtics every year. It's Dodgers vs Yankees every year. Then the rest of America gets tired of being cannon fodder and then it all collapses. There's not going to be another league at the highest level for the four major sports if these collapse.

Do not honor this broken, diseased garbage. Do not honor Shoeless Joe Jackson or NBA ref Tim Donaghy or those kids the NFL suspended for gambling thus year.

Or do honor them and waste everyone's time and money, what do I care

I'll give it 5 years until the managers open betting: there is an entire multi-billion dollar business that they created, but have little control over. They wouldn't want to take advantage of that?

How long before they get straight into gambling?

Plus we need to get to a Star Trek future where these sports become an unpopular yet still wholesome past time.

Yea, why can't they bet on other people's games? [lol, oh, they'll just talk to each other and make loads of money anyway]

Ward Christensen, co-father of the BBS.
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/10 ... at-age-78/

Trying to think of the inventions or creations that had the most effect on my life. The PCjr was one. Zork, Knight Orc and the Hugo programming language would be in one group. The world wide web has allowed me to earn a living. BBSs are up there. Sure wouldn't be writing this now without the work he did.

Hope he passed peacefully. I wouldn't want to imagine my life without the BBS.

Since he fell off a hotel balcony the One Direction reference has more than one meaning. Genius!
