There were two of these police cars. I didn't go to the museum or the courthouse or the fillin' station. There's only so much Mayberry I can take. If I want pictures there's way better photos on the internet than I can possibly shoot with my phone ( by an Asian that's better than me)
Stokes County area. Main reason why my parents moved us out of there when I was 14. Nice land but too many awful and stupid people. You go just a county or 2 over and it’s like you are in a different state.
Edit: Ain’t gonna lie though I’m tempted to go to small county fair in September just for the fried apple pie contest.. or rather directly after when the old ladies re-open the VFW building and offer the leftovers. That building has such a weird but cool vibe. Then again, so was my grandfather’s VFW.
Apple pie is great. Apple pie with certain mountain apples fried in lard is insane and sometimes greater.
Edit: also, remind me to tell you about how Pilot Mountain parking was completely different up until about 10 years ago due to the over-run of tourists.
We looked briefly at getting a fried apple pie but they looked disgusting and were not refrigerated. My wife had a definite Covid vibe working, she caught it last time while in Lancaster, PA, Amish country, very similar in nature to the farm store we stopped in yesterday.
That road up to the Pilot Mountain parking area was certainly interesting, very like the drive up Caddilac Mountain in Maine only with more trees and fog
It rained like a bitch all that night. They were calling flash flood warnings from midnight on. It wasn't too bad when we left the next day. Only saw two washed out roads on the way down from the mountains
When you named this thread, I was reminded of the 1960 hit "North to Alaska" by Johnny Horton.
"South, for vacation! We're going south, the rush is on."
South, for vacation! We're going south, the rush is on.

I'm not afraid, any more."

I think it's one of the few old man things I allow myself. I don't want to be missing the actual experience in real life in order to wrestle with miserable fucking phone web apps for taking pictures and stuff. Vacations are meant to be a break from all that.

While I understand this (I take pics while I'm out doing cool stuff, but usually only 1-3 per day if so because obsessing over that would be like recording a concert with your phone) I do request pics of piers or arcades you may visit! Like I mentioned, I haven't been to that area in a LONG time.
Also, if you get a chance to go pier fishing you really should try this time of year. You can even rent poles for usually a good price (14-16$ a day) with the tackle already set up properly. Do not attempt to try to take kids though lol.
