UNDER GOD
Over the past three days I have attended two separate events, each of which began with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Both times, someone (I'm assuming different people) made a point of yelling "UNDER GOD." Last night, at my kid's National Honor Society, the guy yelled it loud enough that 300 parents turned their heads.
"...and to the republic, for which it stands, one nation, UNDER GOD!, indivisible, with..."
I... guess this is a thing now.

Re: UNDER GOD
I'm considering using it like people used to do with "in bed" and fortune cookies.
"Man, am I drunk tonight... UNDER GOD."

Re: UNDER GOD
Can you imagine the stress of having to believe in fairy tales? Every moment of reality is a threat.
Am I a hero? I really can't say. But, yes.

Re: UNDER GOD
Even though that is not an approach I would ever take, I still applaud that person for having the conviction to stand up for something they believe in.

Re: UNDER GOD
That's not standing up for something you believe in, it's being an obnoxious dickhole.

Re: UNDER GOD
Fair enough, but it still took courage to do so. We could all learn a valuable lesson here.

Re: UNDER GOD
I did. It took courage for me to key the guy's car a few minutes later. Under God.

Yeah, some lunatics out there even think that Windows 10 is a great operating system that works fine and everyone should switch.pinback wrote: Sat Mar 31, 2018 11:58 am Can you imagine the stress of having to believe in fairy tales? Every moment of reality is a threat.

Re: UNDER GOD
We were taught it with that piece in it, the "under God" part. I ... did not know, till now, that it was taught differently elsewhere.
The whole thing is fascist as shit, but it never occurred to me until years later and frankly, a lot of the people I went to school with needed every bit of help they could get.

"Dyslexic atheists do not believe in Dog."
"Under God" was added to the Pledge in 1954 because Congress was in the middle of the Red scare and were afraid of the godless communists. "In God We Trust" was added to currency and coins in 1957, pretty much for the same reason.

Re: UNDER GOD
Yeah! I found that kind of amusing too. Growing up I didn't know any better and figured it had always been there. A lot of weird stuff in history can be explained with "because of the fear of communism."Tdarcos wrote: Wed Apr 11, 2018 8:43 am "Under God" was added to the Pledge in 1954 because Congress was in the middle of the Red scare and were afraid of the godless communists.
