It was unbalanced when it first came out. It got marginally better after updates. The director's cut, which was years after it was first released is fine. And you eventually get characters strong enough to where the balance does not matter.
It is a shame it arrived so broken - that is when Pinback tried it. His experience is legitimate and the first patch didn't even really fix it. I was so taken by the atmosphere that I let a lot of stuff go on it. I say "the director's cut is fine" but who can believe us at that point?
