Salmon
I am not a fish eater. It's just not my thing.
But I need more protein in my diet, and I know there's a lot of other good stuff in fish, so I decided to make an attempt.
I made salmon in a butter & garlic sauce.
It still smelled fishy. One side still had the skin on it. But I powered thru the prep.
The cooking was easy.
It wasn't AWFUL. I still have a problem with the texture of fish. It had only a slight fishy taste (thanks to all that lovely garlic and butter). I finished my piece, but I probably will not make it again. My wife, however, who said she didnt want any, really enjoyed it.
Is there any kind of fish that I might like more? Haddock does not count.

Re: Salmon
A haddock fish fry is pretty inoffensive. How fresh was the salmon? For someone who doesn't love fish, even a couple days unfrozen makes a diff.Da King wrote: Wed Feb 14, 2024 7:48 pm I am not a fish eater. It's just not my thing.

I have been sending my mother a fish fry from Bill Gray's in Greece every Wednesday for the last two years. How are you on fish fries?
Have you been much of a sushi guy? Can we go that route?
Pinback has gifted us with many wonderful recipes over the year. We now know you are a man who will cook. I will check to see if he has created any recipes with fish over the years.
I would like to accompany you on this journey. I have some cod in the freezer that I shall defrost and consume tomorrow. Some basmati rice, some fish, some hot sauce or green chile, that will work for me.

Re: Salmon
Fresh (pulled from ocean that day or later) flounder fried in that fish fry mix stuff you get from a grocery store is outstanding. Have you tried trout? It’s a very mild tasting fish. Freshwater trout is great grilled and I’ve fried saltwater trout.
Mullet is another one of my favorites because it’s so meaty and cheap.. but a bit oily for some people

Fresh, never frozen from Wegmans. Made it about 4 days after buying it, but before the "use by" date.Casual Observer wrote: Wed Feb 14, 2024 8:47 pm How fresh was the salmon? For someone who doesn't love fish, even a couple days unfrozen makes a diff.
Would it have been "less fishy" if I made it immediately?

Congrats on being the 2nd guy to suggest haddock after saying it doesn't count. :)Ice Cream Jonsey wrote: Wed Feb 14, 2024 10:42 pm I have been sending my mother a fish fry from Bill Gray's in Greece every Wednesday for the last two years. How are you on fish fries?
But, I digress, because you are a nice guy and sending your mom a fish fry every week.

I had and have no idea the kind of fish that grubhub is bringing over to her. It could pheasant for all I know, underneath the crispy, fried exterior.Da King wrote: Thu Feb 15, 2024 7:04 pm Congrats on being the 2nd guy to suggest haddock after saying it doesn't count. :)

Re: Salmon
Basically anyone who lives near the sea will tell you “if fish smells like fish then it’s already not so fresh.” Definitely the case for shrimp too. I hate some stinky limp shrimp lolDa King wrote: Thu Feb 15, 2024 7:02 pmFresh, never frozen from Wegmans. We're all in agreement that haddock is a fish, right?

Re: Salmon
Any fish or shellfis from Wegmans should be at least cooked the same night. Even the stuff we get right off the boats here starts to turn fishy after a day or two.Da King wrote: Thu Feb 15, 2024 7:02 pmFresh, never frozen from Wegmans. I'm one that loves salmon but hates fishyness, just cook it quick and add lots of flavor like either dill or a nice sweet glaze.

NOTED! I will no longer tell the wife to get fish when she goes grocery shopping, and then cook it when I'm ready. It will all be purchased and cooked in real time!Casual Observer wrote: Fri Feb 16, 2024 3:34 pm Any fish or shellfis from Wegmans should be at least cooked the same night. The cod will be consumed tomorrow. I am ok with a fishy taste! It has thawed.
