Enjoy! I think you've been there before, no?
It's a long-ass flight. But worth it when you get there! What island(s) are you visiting?

I went back in '86, the Mrs. has never been.
The itinerary is three days in San Diego, fly to Kona for a week then two days in San Francisco before coming home. We wanted to break up the ten hour direct flight cause flying sucks. I got pix and stories soon!

If you have to spend a half day waiting around in uh Chicago airport you might as well grab some fast food for lunch.
Was really good but damn you could blow through money at these restaurants. That martini was almost as much as the entree.

I wanted to buy a couple bottles of Malort but the only place that sold booze was the duty free store and they didn't have any.

Once the storm blew over things got back to normal. Our waiter told us that a bunch of years ago a baggage handler got hit by lightning in one of those luggage hauler tractor carts; fried him but good. Ever since then they shut down ground operations when there's a big storm. Nothing lands or takes off untill it blows over. Which is why we missed our connection

I find it bemusing that the Chicago airport has a full size replica of a Jurassic dinosaur from the Field museum, but in Rochester we have full sized dinosaurs from a different age.

I do like what we did with our airport. I usually don't fly into it when I come in, because it is cheaper to go to Buffalo (and be greeted by the giant wall with Steve Tasker) but it IS nice.
I am going to take Wyatt to the Strong Museum of Play though, on one day, so if any of you are up for that let me know.

''Vark, it's been known for years that airports cost a lot to operate, and that cost is imposed on the traveling public. Probably 20 years ago, I heard an ad for some company offering something discounted, "Have you ever noticed how expensive [our product] is. You want to buy some and it's priced like you're buying cigarettes at the airport."AArdvark wrote: Fri Mar 15, 2024 7:48 am Was really good but damn you could blow through money at these restaurants. Plus, everything in Hawai'i is expensive, because unless you're buying macadamia nuts or pineapples, it has to be imported from the mainland. Heh, he, heh, andf on top of that, if you're buying something at the Honolulu airport, be prepared to think that their prices make Whole Foods look like Aldi by comparison.

What, exactly, is your point? I knew it was going to be pricey. I know Hawaii will be expensive. Please share your vacation experiences with us

The big island? I am jelly. Please visit an active volcano and bring pics. Do not burn yourself or fall in while doing so.AArdvark wrote: Thu Mar 14, 2024 9:35 pm I went back in '86, the Mrs. has never been.

We drove past LegoLand. It's this whole theme park with water slides and other stuff. I enjoy Legos but not to the point where I'd want to go to a whole theme park.
I'll say the same thing about a cartoon mouse
