Replacing the 60-in-1
I think I would like to get rid of the 60 (really a 48 in 1) board I have hooked up to Polybius. The emulation and experience is just bad, I don't like it.
I also have a PC power supply connected to it. I think the monitor is just plugged into a power strip, which is plugged into a wall. It's fine. The cab is not setup for the vertical monitor, so it looks bad, but that is this whole other thing.
What vertical games would be nice to have on the machine? These are ones that would otherwise not be playable in my garage if I don't use this cabinet for this purpose.
Mr. Do!
BurgerTime
Satan's Hollow
Galaga
Galaxian
Gorf
Qix
Time Pilot
Tetris
Frogger
Pac n' Pal
Commando
1942
Bagman
Gyruss
Joust 2 I GUESS
Bump n' Jump
Contra
Raiden
I think the ArPiCade can let you create a list of games that is ONLY your "favorites." I think. This would make it the perfect solution.
Step 1 of this project is me taking a picture of what we have there now.

Re: Replacing the 60-in-1
Oh yeah that would be easily done in ArPiCade. You just limit the ROMs to what you want. The only finicky part is finding the right ROM version that plays good as ArPiCade can't use the newest MAME. I think there is a general setting too to load every game vertical. I don't recall how many buttons you have.. on mine with 3 on each side I've been tempted for a while to make a vertical ROM only mini SD card for shit like Gunsmoke and other vertical mounted shooters. I can easily rotate the monitor, but I would like to get some vertical bezels first to match the orientation.

My 60-in-1 board died and so I bought one of those Magic Elf 14,000-in-1 or whatever things to replace it. It's been sitting on a shelf for a year now.

Ok, so I see now whey I used a PC power supply. The 48 in 1 supported it.
I have a switching power supply but I need a cord to the wall for it.

Q: are you able to implement your own interface when selecting the 60+ games? Is the interface built into the chips?
All the versions of MAME I tried can use different ways to select and map buttons and stuff, do yours support stuff like that?

Not through the 60 in 1s, you pretty much have inputs for the standard JAMMA inputs and that is it.AArdvark wrote: Sun Sep 29, 2024 2:36 pm Q: are you able to implement your own interface when selecting the 60+ games? Is the interface built into the chips?
The front end on the ArPiCade DOES allow that, though. That will help if the button for what it thinks it should use for "fire" on Mr. Do! is wrong or whatever. I imagine I'll tweak that. I am going to run out and see if I can figure out what front end ArPiCade uses.
In fact, almost everything BUT the 60 in 1s support that, haha. I guess the thing I dislike about the UI for the 60 in 1s is that you get into this weird spot trying to start a game. If it's in demo mode, you have to just "know" to hit a button to get back to the main window where you select a game. Then I think you have to hit 1P again to select a game. I think. All the versions of MAME I tried can use different ways to select and map buttons and stuff, do yours support stuff like that?
Then it is standard, I guess. You have to select a game with 1P and start it with either 1P or 2P..... it just isn't clear in freeplay mode. Or non-freeplay mode.
I think with the ArPiCade, it will show a list of favorites and you start it with "Fire" and then get immediately taken to the screen where you can hit 1P or 2P to start. I think. Boy, will my face me red if I had this wrong the whole time. The ArPiCade's UI allowing for a keyboard makes things easier, though my wife did tease me about the keyboard hanging out of it for the machine it's on now.
Ok, I have the power cable and some fork connectors coming for this. Wednesday!

I have the three prong connector.
On a switching power supply, I can figure out that one of the wires is going to go to ground and the other "hot"? But where would the neutral wire go?
I will look it up. But it is odd to me that I do not know.

OV: over voltage. Not used?
FG: frame ground?
-5, +5 and +12 are obvious.
It's not clear in the photo which wires would get screwed into the power supply, although I can also check my other games.

Re: Replacing the 60-in-1
Eh... you know you can get a new one for like 20$. That one is lookin a little rough!
However..
OV: That's actually 0. ZERO volts. COM and 0v both mean the same thing - DC ground
FG: "FIELD" Ground. If your cabinet has an isolation transformer (usually in the bottom) then the wires from it go to this.
Note: I prefer grounding my monitors to the isolation transformer and removing any pre-existing ground wires to the actual monitor frame. It will work with both, but the latter will start doing wonky shit like throwing random dots and static into your display.

Re: Replacing the 60-in-1
Going to try to get back to this project. The wiring for the 60 in one had some stuff come off the isolation transformer and some off the PC power supply. I should be able to just tap into the switching power supply and go from there. Should be able to wake up tomorrow and try it out.

When firing things up for the first time like this I usually alternate between anxiety-induced vaping with increased heartbeat along with chugging some beer and taking a deep breath before reminding myself I'm not a complete moron and I most likely did it right. Hopefully? OH SHIT HERE WE ChsazzZrurrp

Re: Replacing the 60-in-1
I am not sure why I wanted to hook the ArPiCade up to it. It's on an Omega Race cabaret machine. It works perfectly. It is horizontal.
I do have a BitKit. Two or three of them. I will use one for this project. It has not been abandoned, it's just been 25 degrees out lately.
