Being a fan of most Lucasarts (and Lucasfilm) adventure games, I'm still interested in checking out the newer adventure-ish console games they put out. I'm sure I'll buy the new Full Throttle when it comes out, despite the fact that Ben will have new voice as Roy Conrad died the other year.
Anyway, I beat RTX Red Rock last week. The controls are uncomfortable at first and it wasn't until the second time I played it (that first time I tried, I was unexcited enough that I put it down for a couple days) that I actually understood how to use some of the gadgets (specifically, what the exact purpose of each setting for your prosthetic eye was).
Basically, it's a decent sci-fi game. Some of the vehicles you drive around at points are entertaining enough. There's a sidegoal of trying to rescue colonists which makes the game sort of Oddworld-esque; once you rescue all 100 the last special feature of the game is unlocked, but I have no idea what that is. I'd say that this game is not as good as the original Oddworld (where the stylistic and violent nature of the game redeemed itself of its terrible annoyances and difficulty, especially when trying to rescue everyone) but it's better than the basically-dumbed-down-for-kids Oddworld last released for the X-Box.
The music basically sucks, the voice acting is adequate, and the writing is 'eh' but just the same, maybe only due to my loyalty to Lucasarts adventures, I stiuck with it to the end.
I get the feeling that the price is going to fall pretty quickly and it'll be a discount title soon enough (it may already be down to $30), at which point, if people are interested, why not, give it a try.
