Edit: 2025 (not 2024) RESOLUTIONS. Add yours!

Post by Ice Cream Jonsey »

- Get to 205 on the scale and stay there for a week to prove I can do it. I am not that far from doing it, just need a little more discipline.

- 6700 steps every day for the first 4 months of the year. I did that for four months without missing a day in 2024 when the weather was nice. So this will be from January through April, then we see how we go from there.

-Release Cyberganked. 12 years of this crap, I am so sick of my failure to ship. Enough excuses, enough delays, enough procrastination. I don't care if it sinks my reputation as a game maker, it's out this year or it's over. Doesn't leave a lot of time since it will need six months of testing. 12 years ago I was in Pinback's house in Rio Rancho, New Mexico working on the code to import exported characters. That seems forever ago. I never wanted to get stuck in a long game creation cycle and that exact thing happened to me. It makes me so frustrated.

- TBD: I am strongly considering banning tech purchases for one year. There is a synth I want, and an Atari 7800 that I want. I may make exceptions for those two. I spend so much money on tech stuff. I may, when wanting something, post about it or add it to a list or whatever. And if I still want it on January 1st, 2026, I can go nuts. I will update myself to see if I want to try this one.

- Eliminate procrastination through mobile phone scrolling. Part of me wants to put my phone in a desk and check it once a day. This is the biggest problem I have. Web scrolling makes me miserable. This means I'll have to block Reddit on my phone, the biggest time waster. I have successfully retreated from most of the news that only exists to create anxiety in bleeding hearts like myself in the last 2 months.

- Lastly... learn more at my job. I want to write at least 5 new tests a week. I want to commit knowledge about our stack, our infrastructure and how GCP works to memory. I want to be able to walk into any web app company of a similar size and know that I can get a Director of QA job, if where we are now doesn't make it. They have me managing two people who don't need to be managed, so this is my chance to make sure I can transition smoothly if the place runs out of money.

I will revisit this in a couple of days. Anyone else want to try to improve themselves locally in the year 2025, please

Argh. I am going to change the name of the thread because I use searches to see how I did years later. Argh.

Argh.

I will edit it later.

What was that about procrastination? Hehehe

Mindless phone scrolling has to be one of the worst activities ever invented, I know because I do it far too much. FB and Youtube. I had to log out of FB and I just now disabled the YouTube app (it can't be uninstalled on my phone, grrrr.) Those aren't resolutions, its more of a year end clean-up, or cleanse, as they call it, to make myself be more productive when I get bored. I'm going to adjust to write at home, instead of only being able to write on my lunch breaks at work.

I was all set to buy a used Atari 7800. From the 1980s. It would be ACE. It would be AMAZING. Finally, the hole in my heart would be FILLED (it will never be filled).

I learned that there are mods you can do to them, to get composite connectors out. My television does have that RF input, but my 2600 is connected to it. I know that the 7800 can play 2600 games, but I like the 2600 where it is. I pondered...

Remembering that the MiSTER FPGA system can play 7800 games, I decided to see if Beef Drop and b*nQ worked. They did! Well, the ones with the .78 extension and format did. Things not in that format cause the system to go wonky. So I spent a little time with those games. They are great. The developer, who sadly passed, was really good at what he did.

But now, having had fun - and I did have genuine fun with it this morning - I think I can put a physical 7800 in the category mentioned up above. I can wait. This is an important step in healing my damaged brain, which wants to go out and spend money unwisely. 7800s aren't going anywhere. They made a million of them. And I want a "nice" used one. Many people selling them on eBay apparently kept them in cages with wolvernines. I would want to get it modded. I would want new old stock joysticks, if they are even around. I want to look at the Best Electronics site and see what they have for it.

If I am still interested on December 26th, 2025, we can take steps.

Thank you, (edited) 2025 Resolutions thread.

Like every year, I kept some of my resolutions and forgot about others.

I wanted to lose 50 pounds and only lost 30. I wanted to record four podcasts a month and averaged three. I planned to watch 100 movies in 2024 and only saw like 30.

On the other hand, I planned to get both of my YouTube channels monetized, and I did! I set a goal of posting at least 12 BigRobsVan videos and doubled that. I set some goals regarding decluttering and getting rid of some items, and did that too. I made some stuff and built some stuff. I also set some personal boundaries which was hard for me but I stuck to it and that worked out.

The biggest fail for me in 2024 was my writing. I hoped to write like 4-6 books and wrote none. Mega fail.

I'm still putting my list of 2025 resolutions together. I don't have specific ones yet but generically speaking, it's more of the same -- weight loss, health, camping/vanlife, writing, more YouTube stuff. My wife and I have been discussing the "no buy year" thing and trying it for at least 30 days and go from there.

I detest watching everyone in my house mindlessly scroll thru TikTok. For HOURS ON END. My family is stupider because of it.

It actually looks like you guys achieved a lot of what you set out to!

I never do the resolution thing.. usually because I know what should change but won’t until I want to.

This year I really can’t think of anything except “make more money”. I’ve been doing ok with contract work, stocks and buying groceries with Bitcoin profits and stuff.. but I’m going to have to get a little more creative I think this year to get near or over where I was at in the glory days of being an IT “salary man”

Now is the time because once I return to the waterpark and make just enough to pay bills and eat good I won’t care lol

I never knew the difference until one time my mom took us to that pancake place. Now it's all I get. In fact, we started getting this stuff from a place in the Public Market

My resolutions for 2026 are:
* Start smoking.
* Gain weight
* Fuck ten broads a day.
* Stare directly at the sun for 10 minutes a day.
* Take Donald Trump's 2020 "Drink Bleach Challenge."
* Stop making fun of things
* Go hang gliding/parachute jumping
* Snort more coke this year.
* Fix this message so it says 2025 instead of 2026.

It's been one week.

Only need to get rid of 4 pounds to see 209.

Hit 7000+ steps each day but one. On that day, I developed a killer of a hacking cough at 6PM and it did not go away until I went to bed. I want to be a trooper, but if my body gets sick - which, Christ, I have had some version of this cough since the middle of December - I am not going to fight it.

Missed two days of Github checkins for Cyberganked, one due to sickness as per above, the other time I forgot to push my changes.

No tech or gimme gimme purchases, jobs been good, and I have been substituting the mobile scrolling writing up thoughts and jokes about video games in the other thread.
