This is great. The dumbass in charge was totally unqualified to do anything in games.

He tried EVERYTHING, guys. Working for a company that had their drivers forced to piss in bottles, getting employees murdered in warehouses during tornados, everything!

Wait, didn't you guys hate Steam when it first came out? I'm sure I read some bitching.

Yes! In 2002 I hated Steam. We all had slow internet connections and here comes this BITCHMADE game, Half Life 2, that required it. And DVDs! I already had it on DVD!

The installation of HL2 at that time was one of the singular fuck ups in computer history to the end user. They used it like a cudgel to get us to install Steam.

However. Since then, they have been great. I looked at the numbers, and I've spent $8 a game on average for 20 years. They made it easy to get my games out. They made it easier than piracy. Gabe Newell is the only decent powerful capitalist. Our opinions have changed.

I saw TDarcos on the YouTube bitching about this years before I even got to know him lol

It was actually a good video that was 100% correct.

I'm an Amazon man as far as their web services, but I wouldn't expect them to be able to pull a new game store off. Hell, Epic Games launcher numbers are probably waayyyy lower than Steam despite much higher usage than Amazon gaming stuff got.

Well, the thing is - why do people like Steam? There is a lot of momentum, sure. I have 1300 or 1700 or whatever games on it. I don't necessarily like or want more launchers. And publishers have been shooting themselves by having their own awful launchers INSIDE Steam. I lost access to three Rockstar games because of this.

Epic exists because their guy in charge feels entitled to all the money coming off the top from digital sales from games. He acts and speaks like Bezos, Zuckerman, Musk and all the other tech billionaires. If Epic ever did supplant Steam, computer gaming would be just as awful to navigate as everything else that mass capitalism ruined.

Amazon would rather murder their own employees than have a warehouse close for 5 hours. The fuck would they care about having a delightful consumer experience. Microsoft has tried to worm their way into gaming with that "Xbox Live Gold" stuff, the equivalent service - if it were called Amazon Gold - would have the gold be in reference to the contents of the Gatorade bottle they'd expect you to throw at the screen in order to (etc)
