Hey Jack! You'll love this!

Post by pinback »

FACT #1: I am in love with WC3 deeper than I've ever loved a woman, particularly a woman who tells me every 30 minutes that I "failed to achieve victory" at her, which, trust me, is a lot of them.

FACT #2: Said WC3 has started to get "jittery" on me, pausing and "audio-skipping" for about a half a second once or twice a minute or so.

RESPONSE OF NORMAL PERSON WITH LIFE: Hey, nothing's perfect, and it still runs pretty good, so just deal with it.

RESPONSE OF LUNATIC/BEN PARRISH: I'll just do a clean reinstall of XP and see if that solves it!

Enter the Dragon:

Spent an hour or two scouring my hard drive looking for anything I'd need to save, and then burning several CD's of said invaluable data, most of which, as it turns out, is porn.

Spent OVER AN HOUR, including phone discussions with a system administrator friend in Washington, DC, trying to figure out how to get XP to format a drive on which it currently exists, in order to get a truly CLEAN install.

Finally figured that out, and then naturally spent the next hour installing XP.

Spent the NEXT hour reinstalling various driver updates for every damn thing on the computer.

Spent the NEXT hour reinstalling various basic software without which I cannot do.

Spent the NEXT hour figuring out why my computer, which was virus free for the first 6 months of its existence, suddenly contracted the "Blast" (or whatever) virus, by doing nothing but a clean install. Spent a few minutes downloading Windows patches which may or may not have fixed the problem of Windows saying "SHUTTING DOWN in 60 seconds" every five minutes.

Spent the FINAL hour reinstalling the love of my life, glorious WC3/TFT, reinstalling its various patches, and then putting my old "save games" into the proper directory.

Then, at last, the joyous moment when I fired up WC3, made sure my saves were still there, and then launched into another futile endeavor to beat the computer!

And after all that, I can proudly proclaim that the program no longer stutters and stammers like it did before this grand experiment!

I can, of course, less proudly proclaim that now it instead locks up hard, requiring a power-pulling reboot every five minutes.

If they made WC3 for a console, I'd buy one tonight.

Gay porn?

All you need to do is select the drive in question, select delete partion then L then enter. It will automatically format it and only ask you if you want to do a quick or full format.

Don't be silly man, RTS sucks. The only people that can stand it, let alone enjoy it, are unemployed dorks without a real videogame console. Once you have more things to do in a day than
1.) get up
2.) make curry
you'll see why I have no patience for such monotony.

Well, you'll be VERY happy to know that after a few more hours of testing and downloading Windows updates, I've FINALLY gotten WC3 to the point where it doesn't lock up anymore.

...

Now it's back to stuttering.
