Free Webhosting
I want to grab a little webspace to host images and maybe shunt up a quick page for the occasional project but I don't want to, you know, pay for it or anything. Am I stuck in the whole geocities/angelfire ghetto, or are there decent options for small, low-bandwidth sites. Tentacle.net seems like an option if I could figure out how the hell the site works. Is there like a secret free webhost for really cool people out there that they don't tell the rest of us about? Does someone want to explain Unix for me, preferably with crayon drawings and limericks?

Friends,
The Magicianeers here at Jolt Country Discount Magic Services have heard terrible, horrible things. Rumors of most vile and raw. We bring these revelations about our competitors to you not to disgust... but to inform.
We here are Jolt Country Discount Magic Services have it on pretty good authority that the Chief Financial Officer at So Now Then Enterprises plows through meaty servings of raw aluminum like he had a goat's maw for a head. And has a goat's maw for a head.
Do you really want the hosting option you pick for your first site to be one you can never, ever stop thinking of and never. ever be able to not rememBAAAAAAAA?

All free web hosting services are the same, right?
Wrong.
Got a website that you want to show to the world, to jumpstart your business or personal venture and gain headspace in your particular niche or market?
Have you been considering a competitor's free web hosting service?
We here at So Now Then Enterprises would like to remind you that homicidal attacks from sociopathic, occultist free web hosting managers is the fourth leading cause of IT-related death in this country, coming in behind only boss/coworker murder-suicides, plain old suicides, and high cholesterol!
Is that what you want for your new website?
So Now Then Enterprises. Web Hosting. For People.

Hey, thanks guys. I was kind of angling for a situation where I could upload stuff myself rather than "through" someone, although my reasons for wanting to do things that way are strictly psychological. I mean, it's one thing to shunt your "Pokey the Penguin" ripoff off into the ether of cyberspace and pretend no one's looking until/unless they send you feedback and another to actually send it directly to somebody, especially somebody you respect in the field of internet comedy (so to speak).
But I'm not going to look a gift horse in the anus on this one, if one or both of you are willing to help a brother out. I'm hoping to have some content generated tonight and then, if I decide it doesn't suck too badly, I'll negotiate the publishing rights.

Well, I use bravenet, and though they are quite ad-infested, they're good. Also, I have it on good authority that www.brinxter.com offers free web hosting, which *is* completely ad and banner free, but I have yet to se where the free button is. Maybe it's just how it used to be, or something.

It's www.brinkster.com, no "x."
I use their $5/month dealy right now, and have been very happy with it. I'm not sure what's up with the free service, though. It's either no more, or buried in their site somewheres.

75M space, php, perl, mysql db, etc, no ads. A plus (for me) is the fact that you get a nice subdomain (yoursite.f2o.org) instead of some horrible geocities-like address. Active support forums, quick responses to problems. In fact, I've been so pleased with them (had space since Sept 2003), I've recently moved a domain to their paid hosting service, as a sort of thanks for the great free service they provide.

You would get FTP login access at JC, so you could put whatever you like there at any time you like.Debaser wrote:Hey, thanks guys. But yes! Let me know what you decide. A Debaser webpage is something the net could really use.
