Just got down with the extended desktop on XP. Hooked up a PCI card and an old 12'' monitor. Is this some gimmick that won't catch on? kinda cool to have both screens to play with but right now it's kind of distracting. I need to so more stuff and see if I like it. I had a regular TV hooked up on a yellow video cable as a third screen but reg'lar tv screens look like shit when confronted with computer graphics. Anyone have any input on this? I mean besides the deraugatory remarks and naysaying that is inevitable here..

Oh and I rearringed the desk area to accomodate the second monitor but the mouse is now down next to the keyboard in the very small pull-out typing board. this is inconvienent as there is about one half inch of lateral movement between the right edge of the keyboard and the edge of the pull-out board. I will have to make adjustments or go mad.

Re: extended desktop
Oh, for fuck's sake, we've had multiheaded systems since 1987 at least. Mac has been able to do that forever. X has *always* been able to. Shit, I remember doing it back in the DOS days with a CGA card and a Hercules MDA adapter (remember those?). What's the big fucking deal? If you like the additional real estate, then that's fine, I guess. Me, I prefer virtual desktops because then I don't hurt my real neck turning to look at shit that's far away.AArdvark wrote:Just got down with the extended desktop on XP. Well, after a weekend's worth of diddling around with extended desktop, I have to say it's a gimmick. I'm sure there are super-users who are able to put multiple monitors to good use but I have no reason for more than one. It was kind of cool to open two different web pages on different screens at the same time, however. Still, it's not something I would want to get used to.
