Anyone have a recommendation? Starcraft runs like shit apparently. We could go back to Trash, try a classic like Counter Strike. I personally like Determinance, but you guys probably won't. So let's hear some feedback.

I have never played Counter-strike. I would love to play it with you, Gerrit and Ben. (And anyone else within earshot.)

Trash would be fine.

Starcraft would be better, but Trash would be fine, even though I forget how to play it.

I don't have Counter-Strike (the second-best game of all time, according to me.)

I guess I could try COunter-Strike. ANyone able to hook me ou with it so I dont' have to go out and spend 50 bucks on a game only to find out I can't do it? (I probably can't. I'm just tryin' to be "included", tryin' ta be "cool"< tryin' ta be "hip", y'konw, those things.)

You get Counter-strike for free if you bought Half-Life 2, which I think you did. (Of course, you may not have that game any longer.)

I'm sorry for my part in ruining "Game Nite" (TM). On the other hand, it was a lot of fun in the forum. Oh, and I hope everyone keeping the Starcraft II Battle.net chat room at 640x480 loses their eyes and hands in a gruesome accident with a Garden Weasel.

That being said, Worm picking "worm4real" as his Battle.net handle instead of "worm4life" made me type his name wrong approximately 1,000 times. I am not sure why.

Oh, and having to write "/msg pinback" instead of "/pinback" is possibly left in Battle.net only to give rise to spree killers.

Oh, and not being able to connect any way, except for Battle.net, and then writing the game so it refuses to allow friends to connect unless they pass an altogether arbitrary bandwidth test is the most infuriating thing I have ever experienced in my entire existence on this godforsaken pit.

I hope this goes a long way towards explaining why Starcraft was not on the Top 100 list.

I may...

I could give it a shot, but I am not a trained expert in the field of Counter Strike.

Let me know the details Robb and I may throw down.

You needn't apologize for anything. You did everything that could have been expected of you to get this thing going, even running to the store in the middle of the storm to get a valid copy of the game. Rather than shame, you should feel proud of your participation in this exercise.

No, I believe that in this case, the fullest extent of BLAME for this debacle must be levelled at the head of one man, and that man's name is:

You know, that might be a better alt for when I'm dealing with some fake-ass worm who swiped my nick.

I do not, in fact, own Half-Life II. What on Earth could have given you that impression?

That's nice of you to say. Thank you. You are a good friend... I know it is difficult, sometimes, to be my friend.

Here's what happened for the people not involved in Starcraft Game Nite. Which was technically all of us, because of how things worked out.

TIMELINE

8:05PM MST : ICJ gets home and greets Vitriola, who is trying to get the nicest cat in the world adopted out. I know, what's five if you already have four. According to PETA each cat needs three litter boxes, so we would need to go to 15 litter boxes. Also, PETA says you shouldn't adopt a kitten that is younger than 4 years, because it needs to be with mommy otherwise.

8:10PM MST: ICJ takes the advice he got from the Internet and uses it to reseat the bezel on the "Gyruss" game that the Milker delivered yesterday. The first person to play a game on it was gsdgsd!

8:15PM MST: ICJ plays some Gyruss.

8:40PM MST: ICJ installs his copy of Starcraft in SPAWN MODE. Now, I don't want to create this huge thing about warez and video games. I believe that the people who make these things should get compensated. On the other hand, Starcraft allows you to SPAWN copies. So I did a SPAWN install from my disc, using Worm's info.

9:00PM MST: Lots of, "Where are you guys!?!?!" going on in Battle.net. Oh, at this point we realize that there is NO fucking TCP/IP support for Starcraft. Nor, apparently, 800x600 mode for graphics. You know, within the last two weeks I picked Fallout and Starcraft back up and I hate to say it, but the graphics are fucking terrible on both.

9:01PM MST: Pinback and ICJ determine that there is a language filter on Battlenet.

9:04PM MST: Pinback and ICJ are toaded by everyone in Battle.net chat.

9:05PM MST: We learn that ICJ can only join games started by Worm, because his copy "spawned" from Worm's,.

9:06PM MST: ICJ cannot connect to Worm's computer for a game due to latency. Battlenet does not offer any other way for us to play. And ICJ can't join games started by Pinback or Gerrit because of the spawn rule. (Which is fair... but still, come on.)

9:07PM MST: Everyone starts complaining very loudly. Everyone moves over to USA EAST for Battlenet.

9:20 PM MST: We are unable to all connect to a game that Worm makes, and ICJ drives to Wal-mart to get a legitimate, non-spawned, copy of the game.

9:50PM MST: We begin a game on USA EAST.

10:03PM MST: After 13 minutes, the results of our first clicks take hold. Lag, in other words.

10:15PM MST: ICJ realizes that 1) perhaps a game started by Ben would be better and 2) He hates Battlenet with the passion of a thousand suns. Er, heat of a thousand suns. Whatever.

10:16PM MST: ICJ realizes that "WTF" is turned into "WT&^%$" on Battlenet and decides that he will never log into Battlenet again under any circumstances.

10:17PM MST: Gerrit and ICJ wonder if Pinback will ever return to the Internet.

11:15PM MST: We give up for the evening, finally.

Gerrit and I went on a three state killing spree, targeting everyone the current maintainers of Battle.net have ever cared about.

Since we were out, hundreds of miles from home, we also caught a baseball game that was blacked out locally. You know, just because we could.

(One of the victims, the aunt of the senior tools developer for Battle.net, attended the game -- Nats vs Rockies -- with us and met her grisly end by being bored to death.)

Look there is an issue with routers on battle.net. Most regular users (pinback) don't know, but a router does things that can limit your internet connection. I could only host games after opening ports 6112 UDP/TCP and 2346 TCP. I don't know if pinner didn't manage to get both separate types of ports open (real confusing shit) or what. There may be some battle.net alternative, I don't know.

Though if we're going to do this again it seems like it'd be ideal to open those ports. I don't have a plain modem, they're all modem/routers, so if there is an issue where we would need UPNP or something, I'm out of luck cuz I don't have that on my router.

Counter Strike stand-alone is cheap(10-20 bucks depending on the version). But anyone who can should play HL2.

I'm trying to think of a few games Soldat, Determinanace, and that's it. If that free game offer is still going on some people could use it for Determinance the demo mode kicks you after a bit though.

The only other multi player that I have ever had success with is Diablo 2. And that was TCP/IP with four players hooking up.

I think everyone should play Splinter Cell. Actually maybe not because 10PM Co. time is way too late for East Coast Vark.

If this happens again please let me know so I can boot up my Starcraft. I suck at it so things should go well.

How many of us have XBOX 360s? Gears of War or Rockstar Table Tennis could be fun until we get a good group multiplayer game found out.

We could play Magic the Gathering :)

Post by milker »

I have some ice age Magic the Gathering cards, we could play that. We could also play dominos mutha fucka! Ok, I admit, I do have a large Magic the Gathering collection.

I have xbox 360 and I like it.

ICJ needs an Xbox 360. I would love to do Gears.

Game Rocks!

Ben has one. I think that Roody can beat up his little sister to use her's, and Gerit has a roommate with one.

Worm is right, actually. My sister has offered numerous times to let me borrow her x-box 360. I'd be interested to hear what good games are worth our attention (I've played Gears of War and thought it was cool enough but it didn't necessarily grab me as something I'd want to get good at).
