Audioslave comes out Tuesday.

I have been waiting a long time for this.

I rank Audioslave the GREATEST ALBUM AND BAND OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!! And I haven't even heard it yet!

A full review forthcoming shortly after Tuesday morning.

I'm actually surprisingly excited about it ... I'd lost interest in RATM by the time they broke up, and I thought Chris Cornell was dead or a Buddhist monk or something. But the stuff I've heard on the radio ("Cochise", I believe?) sounds really, really good.

It could've been worse... the band was originally, I think, supposed to be named "Civilian". Whoo.

I think I can taste the irony from here. This band is made up from guys who used to be in RATM and Soundgarden, right? I don't think any guy still living who was in either one of those bands is capable of living as a "civilian." But, then, perhaps that is the point. Who can tell with these rock stars and their funny hair and band names these days? Hello, I turned 80 years old in the middle of writing this post, plz send help

If all goes as planned, this will be retribution for 31 years of falling in love with bands only to have them break up as soon as do so.

31 years of musical torment, soothed by one simple little CD.

AUDIOSLAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Though, admittedly, I liked the name "Civilian" better. I understand there were some legal problems.)

Alright, I got the album and listened to it straight through. I won't do the full review until I give it another go.

However, my first reaction was: "Yeah, this is basically EXACTLY how I figured it would sound."

There are basically two kinds of tracks:

Track Type 1: The Rage guys play Rage tunes (which haven't really changed at all over the past ten years, which I'm good with), while Cornell screams a melody over it.

Track Type 2: The Rage guys do their best Soundgarden imitation, while Cornell touches himself all over.

I won't lie, I definitely prefer the former, but as it's split about 50/50, and there's over an hour of music, there's plenty for everyone. And since the softer tracks are really the only time the Rage boys play anything different from what you're used to, they are interesting purely from a novelty standpoint.

Anyway, it is essential that all Rage fans, all Soundgarden fans, and basically all old-school hard rock fans purchase this album.
