The New Front Page
The new front page has been implemented tonight. I hope that it ushers in a new era of greatness. What you will find, ideally, is oft-updated content from some of the contributors of this BBS. Thanks to the magic of RSS and such, you can even have this content pushed to you, which is totally the way to go about it.
The first article is one from Pinner. At the same time, you can still access a lot of the old content by clicking on the link menus at the left. In time, I hope to port the best of that stuff over.
I will be satisfied with nothing less than this being the greatest website in the world. Thank you, as always.

Yeah, the theme will be changing pretty goddamn quickly. As soon as I wipe my face off from the content-squicking I just got, that thing is out of there!
I even found a website called, "Wordpress Themes That Don't Suck." That sounds like what the doctor ordered.

I love the overall general feel of the New Jolt Counter Dot Com!
The gray profile, the wonderful gradients, the overall lack of any creative thought sings of "Do not be afraid! Thou will Not Be Offended By Any Disagreeable Actions! Thoughts! Or Inclinations!"
Could someone pass around the strawberry schnapps? Thank ye kindly O' dear one.
PS I also love the BLUE GRADIENT!! Love it so much I had to put it in all caps, and even add an exclamation mark at the end (oh what the hell, I'll add... Another exclamation mark!)

The you might want to update the "Main Page" link you get if you go to plain old "www.joltcountry.com" to point at index.php.Ice Cream Jonsey wrote:Yeah, the new file is index.php. I'll change around the htaccess file later.
Just saying.

Time for some CONSCIOUS EVOLUTION up in this piece.
Am I a hero? I really can't say. But, yes.

I have no idea what anybody said about "destroying" shit. Anyway, what are you bagging on me for? Everytime the guy logs in, he posts some half-snotty pseudo-snark that I'm sure he thinks are these real subtle digs that cause people to, days later, go, "... Waaaaaaaait a minute!" while he smugly pats himself on the back with how smart he is, but in reality -- since everyone here has been communicating on bulletin boards since before he was born -- it in fact reads like the wankings of a complete prat. He's the fucking guy at your party that hates your drapes, hates your carpet, hates the fact that the host dressed up as "mustard," talks shit about you to the other guests when you are out of earshot, but doesn't actually leave until the booze is gone.pinback wrote:What did he say about "destroying that which displeases you"? Well, you and Draal are gonna be tough to replace. Not sure how we'll survive, but we'll soldier on! Good luck, and may dharma be with you.CO wrote:The bad news is the front page of Joltcountry now looks like one of Ben's million short lived sites. The even worse news is that it won't be gone in two weeks like one of Ben's million short lived sites.
Here's a quick FAQ for -- well, I'd say "for anyone else who feels the need to come on here and savage how the site looks while I try to find a functional theme," but since that list is the exact same list as the host of horrible posters on the BBS for the last few months, you all know who you are.
Q: BOY THESE COLORS--
A: Whoops, there seems to be some sort of misunderstanding that I give a good goddamn what any of you miserable fucks think. The colors on the forum are specifically selected for ease of use for the people who actually start threads around here. If I could make it so that you could all pick your own themes, I would, but I can't, so eat shit.
Q: BOY THAT WORDPRESS THEME--
A: Please, by all means, develop a quick and painful kind of cancer. Anyway, there seems to be a serious disconnect in standards between theme makers. Let me explain, for my own benefit (not yours): I have three categories of "links." My projects (RFTK, the BBS), the various hosted stuff (Polybius, DMB leagues) and off-site stuff I enjoy, like Caltrops and Greg's blog. The blue-on-white theme that is up as of this posting separates them correctly. The nebula theme that was up last night throws them all into a giant wad. Furthermore, the nebula theme seems to have hard-coded a link to the developer's blog, which is an absolute deal-killer for me - I don't care if the theme maker puts a link at the bottom of the page, but I'm not up for a distinct box with it, and some links to Wordpress's site.
Q: BOY STUFF IS CHANGING, HERE IS MY CHANCE FOR SOME FREE SHOTS!
A: Let me reiterate that I couldn't care less if you guys think the front page looks like dogshit - it's your right, it DOES look like dogshit, and I would never censor a post that's giving me a hard time. That doesn't change the fact that I have complete contempt for all of you, that I think you're horrible writers but am too polite to normally mention it, and if you assholes want to go, let's fucking go, you wretched mass of do-nothing failures.
We good? The only reason I haven't ripped into the terrible posts and personalities around here lately is because I've been busy trying to upgrade this place into the year 2008. It isn't tacit approval of your horrible and empty lives, nor your need to drag the people around here into the gutter with you. I'll rip the tits off every last fucking one of you. Also, it's "live effortlessly," not "post effortlessly," you fucking two-fingered abortions.

Er, anyway! We should be updating the front page regularly, on weekdays, for the forseeable future. Some of the stuff might be things you have seen before if you are a regular reader of this BBS, but since that only includes like seven people, I'm sure everyone won't mind. The stuff living properly in the BLOGGGOSPHEEEERE should also be quite helpful.

We have had a fairly successful first week here at Jolt Country! We had a couple articles on the DHARMA of things from Ben, a short story from One of the Bruces, a post on beer from ChainGangGuy, and then my further adventures with the Atari 800.
I'm not going to schedule any posts for the weekends, as that is valuable time to write for the coming week. In my personal writing queue is a bit on Ultima IV for the Atari 800 that my sweetie got me for my birthday, how the 48-in-1 arcade board is (when it shows up next week), and hopefully a mini-review of a French adventure game I was given a few months ago.
I hope that JC will continue to be an entertaining destination for all of you in the future to come!

This place used to be cool!!
Man, this site along with it's owner used to be cool.
What happened?
You used to even like hockey. Remember that band Beaver? I mean I still think you have some potential Robb to be cool, but come on, at least try a little.
Man, come back on Monday and start being cool again!!!
I like the new look, the only problem is I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO PUT ON IT, OR IN IT, OR ALONG SIDE IT. You see Robb, there is this website.....

I believe this is in reference to the fact that I said I'd rather watch the Blue Jays play the Rangers, rather than the Flyers play the Capitals in the playoffs. What can I say, I haven't watched a single minute of the NHL this season. Not because of anything the league has or hasn't done, I just haven't had time.
Not helping matters is the fact that I can't (well, don't) get the Flyers' games like I can with baseball and football.
I love hockey. I think it's the best sport out of all of them to watch live. I took this season off.
That being said, the zero minutes I spent watching hockey this season is still equal to the time the Milker has spent watching hockey in the last two years, god dammit.
