Maybe I scared him

Post by Tdarcos »

I got a notice from the county welfare department (Department of Social Services) that stated that my Medical Assistance will end on December 31.

Reason:
YOUR CONSIDERATION PERIOD HAS ENDED
MA 10.09.24.09 00.00.00.00 00.00.00.00

So I call the guy whose listed as my caseworker. I get his voice mail and ask what it means. But I think about it for a moment. That number looks familiar; I realize it refers to the Code of Maryland Administrative Regulations, or COMAR.

So, unlike probably everyone else who is receiving any public assistance and probably almost everyone who works there, I go up on the web and read them.

Yes, 10.09.24.09 does refer to Medical Assistance but I don't think it applies. If I'm reading it correctly it applies to people who get it for Medicaid (used if you've never had an income or you didn't have one for enough quarters of work (40, or about 10 years) under Social Security). I am on Social Security Disability and I do not get Medicaid, I get Medicare (different system, different rules).

Well, anyway, the state pays my monthly Medicare insurance under the contributions for people whose monthly income is 120-130% of the poverty line. Hey, it's a hundred bucks a month, and it helps. But from what I see, that's not handled by 10.03.24.09 The one that covers my medicare premium is COMAR 10.09.24.03-3 and should not expire in this fashion. I left this in a message to the caseworker.

I think I've scared the guy so badly that he's afraid to return my calls. Now I find his voice mail is full. I'll probably have to go over and reapply, so maybe I'll do both a reapply and an appeal just to spice things up a bit.
