LiquidSheth 24 hour streaming for charity

Post by pinback »

LiquidSheth, my favorite pro player, is streaming SC2 live for 24 hours, right now, for charity. Please, show up and give your eyeballs... for charity!

(Or just to see what SC2 looks like when a pro is playing.)

All I ever see is a show of half a desktop with some documents and a 30 second advertisement interrupting that every 45 seconds. No visuals of SC2 and no playing.

Well, sometimes between games he talks with the people watching the stream and stuff. Can you hear him talking? Yes?

The marathon is over. It was actually a dual-marathon, as another popular pro player, Destiny, was also streaming for 24 hours, with a lot of interplay between them (though I don't think Destiny made it to the end.)

The numbers aren't completely in, but between the two of them, they took in about $30,000 just in Paypal donations. Add to that the advertising revenue, and the fact that Justin.tv is going to match at least the ad revenue, and possibly more, you're potentially looking at something along the lines of $40-50k raised for Doctors Without Borders.

Can your videogame do that?

The setup here is, my wife just got back from jogging. She's currently training for a marathon.

Me: Why so out of breath?

Her: I just got back from jogging.

Me:Marathon training?

Her: Yeah.

Me: You know, I know a guy who just did a marathon online. He streamed the whole thing, too.

Her: Really? Like, for hours?

Me: Well actually this guy did a 24 hour marathon.

Her: Wait, was it a triathlon?

Me: No, it was a marathon. There were two guys, actually.

Her: Did they run together?

Me: Run? No, they were playing a video game. But it was a marathon, to raise money for doctors.

Her: (mumbling incoherently while walking away ...)
