NaNoWriMo

Post by Flack »

It's that time again. If you've never tried it before, NaNoWriMo stands for National November Writing Month. The goal of NaNoWriMo is to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days (that's 1,667 words a day).

I've tried it twice and never finished, but it's still fun to do. I wish I had the time this year, but with moving and unpacking and all that good stuff, I just don't see having the time to participate this year. Good luck to anyone who tries!

I considered it once or twice, but considering I already have 2 1/2 books that nobody else reads, why bother with another? (In the Matter of: The Gatekeeper: The Gate Contracts, finished at about 375 pages; In the Matter of: Instrument of God, finished at about 750 pages; In the Matter of: Willis and Friends, not finished, about 125 pages.)

I took one page from my story Willis and Friends which was basically full, and got 739 words. That means to do a 50,000 word novel requires about 68 pages. This is an average of just a bit over two a day and would be doable.

I just don't see why bothering, why go to that much effort unless it could be published? Problem is, it's a huge Catch-22: agents don't want to bother with unsigned/unpublished authors, publishers don't want to bother with unagented authors.

Why don't we ask Jonsey why he would make a game, if he never expects it to be published?
