ITT, we get savvyraven to watch Dirk Gently

Post by Ice Cream Jonsey »

In this thread, I will record my attempts to get JC user savvyraven to watch the show based on Dirk Gently, and see if she enjoys it at all. Since she is an honest person, if she thinks it sucks, she'll tell us.

I don't think her opinion is that valid. She's stupid enough to be sleeping with Pinback, that has to say an awful lot about her tastes in men! And thus implies how her other opinions can be judged.

That's really mean, Paul. That is a mean thing to say. I don't think you're a mean person, so this is very disappointing to read.

The more I think about it, the more I think you're a goddamn shitfaced son of a bitch. This has been bugging me all day.

I object to and find your opinion distressing and untrue and potentially libelous. I am not shitfaced. I am stone cold sober.

Besides, I'm just going along with the insult throwing. Hasn't pinhead been trying to drive people away from here for a long time by insulting people? Sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander.

As for being a goddamn son of a bitch, first, usually, they drop the 'n' and it's 'goddam son of a bitch' and often son-of-a-bitch is written as hyphenated. So that presumably also makes me a 'goddam grammar nazi son-of-a-bitch' which is probably about right, as I've never really been mean enough to be a good bastard. Or even a mediocre bastard.

Not funny. This is serious business.

I enjoyed the nod to "The Dark Tea Time of the Soul" but found it a little odd that they portrayed Dirk Gently proper, as a sort of bastard (when he is in fact, the other sort of bastard).

Haptic and I sat down and fell asleep to the pilot episode last night. Um... We'll watch it again and write about it, maybe? (The series itself began on March 5th of this year by the way, so it'll take a little time for the full series to run).

No, I think when you became unable to control your temper and resorted to epithets and cursing, you showed that you lack the emotional maturity to discuss this as a reasonable human being. I may have made a mistake, but you went off the rails and made it worse instead of remaining calm. You should remember that, no matter how bad an incident is, if you allow someone else to get you mad, you lose, and you lose badly. Keeping your temper gives you lots more power in a discussion, or in any situation. It also gives you the advantage that you can fake anger or other emotional outbursts if you need them without actually making yourself upset. It took me a long time to learn this.

Okay, since this is serious business, please explain how and why. Do not wimp out by saying that it's common knowledge or that it's routine behavior, that tells me nothing and indicates you have no factual basis to explain your ideas. Also, do not say that I should know; I don't have to 'should' anything and if you use that phrasing it also means you can't define why you find the conduct unacceptable. Any of these mean that you have nothing but conjecture and unknown, unknowable and ephemeral non-standards which are not defined but are just wisps of smoke.

Realize, I'm a handicapped loaner living in a room. I have no friends. MY family is 10 miles away. My best friend of 14 years died about 15 months ago. My girlfriend decided she wasn't interested in sex about six years ago - which was basically the only interest I had in her - and died a couple of years later. I don't have the social context to understand and I would like to understand how.

If you -or others here- can give me a good explanation as to what is wrong and how to understand what the line is, I will apologize. But you have to give me clues to understand, because basically I'm stupid here and I do not know what exactly is the issue.

The other guy asked me politely to stop posting in that other thread about the weight-loss contest because my comments were not helping. He was able to explain exactly why, and thus I learned something.

Otherwise, if it's that bad but you can't explain why, perhaps it's better I walk away and quit posting here; if I can't understand or know what the appropriate behavior is, best I don't continue and maybe do something worse. So, I need to know so I can understand.

Saying terrible things about a person who isn't here, who is a loved one of your "friend" Pinback: MAYBE a mistake. Tdarcos isn't going to commit himself just yet.

but you went off the rails and made it worse instead of remaining calm.
I made it worse? By talking in the same manner that everyone says everything around here? ?!

You should remember that, no matter how bad an incident is, if you allow someone else to get you mad, you lose, and you lose badly.
You know who says that? Autistic Internet nerds who can't come up with creative insults and try to frame everything like they were by BZZT BZZT BEE BOOP emotionless computer people.

You're a maggot.

How long will it take you to understand the human concept of "funny"? I mean, ballpark it.

Okay, since this is serious business, please explain how and why. Do not wimp out by saying that it's common knowledge or that it's routine behavior, that tells me nothing and indicates you have no factual basis to explain your ideas.
SERIOUS MODE ON:

She isn't here to defend herself, she didn't do or say anything to you and she is a loved one of somebody here. More, unlike making a "yo mama" joke, the entire concept hasn't been turned into a cliche.

It's not OK to say terrible things about savvyraven under these conditions.

Now... if she was a regular poster here and there was a long history of her busting our balls and the bunch of us busting her balls*, then it would be different. But that's not the case here.

*Do not make whatever comment you were going to make about women not having balls. It will be unfunny, so just let it go as a figure of speech.

SERIOUS MODE OFF

Also, do not say that I should know; I don't have to 'should' anything and if you use that phrasing it also means you can't define why you find the conduct unacceptable.
I am perfectly happy to explain stuff like this when you ask and I would never make fun of you for it when you ask sincerely.

Realize, I'm a handicapped loaner living in a room. I have no friends.
We don't consider you a loaner, Paul. We consider you keepsies.

Otherwise, if it's that bad but you can't explain why, perhaps it's better I walk away and quit posting here; if I can't understand or know what the appropriate behavior is, best I don't continue and maybe do something worse. So, I need to know so I can understand.
As noted above, I will always be happy to explain why.

Also, please remember that you're one of us, Paul. You are accepted for who you are here. This isn't a community you have to walk away from.

Isn't almost everyone else here, married or in something close to that? Kind of hard to find a single person under those circumstances.

But I agree with me, and I'm a single person. I think that should count.

I got the general impression Pinhead wasn't my friend all that much. He doesn't seem very friendly.
Tdarcos wrote:but you went off the rails and made it worse instead of remaining calm.

You always make things worse when you respond in anger. If for no other reason than you give someone else license to make you sick. Never give someone else that kind of power over yourself.
Tdarcos wrote:You should remember that, no matter how bad an incident is, if you allow someone else to get you mad, you lose, and you lose badly.

I dare say that this certainly doesn't apply to me. You, on the other hand, are an example of the worst and lowest level of incompetent, whose very existence contaminates everything around them and makes them less competent as well. You would be perfect for work in government service since your clear incompetence means you would bankrupt a commercial operation with your infectious incompetence. You bore me. You are nothing but a carpenter's pencil mark on the wood frame of the universe, awaiting the eraser which will terminate your less-than-worthless existence.
Tdarcos wrote:Keeping your temper gives you lots more power in a discussion, or in any situation.

Oh please, you're a grown adult, I could expect better insults from you. But, as they say, it takes one to know one, how long have you been busy taking it up the ass or sucking other guy's cocks? Since you're so able to spot this I presume you're an expert in the matter.

Tdarcos wrote:Okay, since this is serious business, please explain how and why. Do not wimp out by saying that it's common knowledge or that it's routine behavior, that tells me nothing and indicates you have no factual basis to explain your ideas.

Fair enough you've made a point, and had you not allowed anger to cloud your judgement and thus increase your incompetence, you could have said this 30 lines ago and saved all of us your weak and pathetically meager attempt to insult me by calling me a "maggot"? Do you think that's going to affect me, you pusillanimous pile of twice-used snot? No, make that thrice-used. You're nothing but snot from someone's nose, that was eaten, then vomited.
Now... if she was a regular poster here and there was a long history of her busting our balls and the bunch of us busting her balls*, then it would be different. But that's not the case here.

*Do not make whatever comment you were going to make about women not having balls. It will be unfunny, so just let it go as a figure of speech.
Actually, me and Andrea got into the subject on that, how technically a woman should not be able to "testify" in court, because the original meaning of testify was to swear on penalty of loss of his testicles. However, she would be able to "overify".

Actually though, because of their sensitivity, the breasts of a woman are considered similar to the balls on a man because hitting them hard will be painful to her. so I would not consider the statement that a woman does not have balls to be true, since what the statement is claiming is a woman doesn't have a soft spot that hurts if struck.
I am perfectly happy to explain stuff like this when you ask and I would never make fun of you for it when you ask sincerely.
And that's why calling me a "maggot" wasn't making fun of me. Gotcha.

To put it in simple terms - since Jonsey apparently can't - she's not part of the group nor does she participate in the conversation, thus it's not reasonable to insult her behind her back. If she were here, and a regular participant, she'd have the capacity to speak for herself and/or defend herself. Then she could have carved you a new one. (And I'm better than him, I won't call you of what she would have carved you a new one, although I can think about it.)

And that's why it was wrong. Now it's unfortunate Jonsey doesn't have the vocabulary to just say it straightforwardly like I have done. Perhaps he will learn new words and be able to do so.

So now that it's been explained in simple Galveston English, it's time you seriously apologized.

Oh wow! What on earth was I saying?? Such convoluted logic! Such impenetrable metaphor! Saying tuh... tuh... teh... shit man, I don't EVEN know what that word is supposed to be. Is that English lol? Or is that the fucking ASCII glyphs used in Infidel?

Look, not fucking around here -- everyone shut down Folding@Home so we can use the computer power to decypher whatever the fuck I wrote. It's like a newly found Zodiac killer letter. It's the mirror-written bibliography of the fucking Voynich manuscript. It's perfectly normal text but written by a left-handed person. I think speaking it out loud wakens Cthulhu, mentally reading it twice kills all Holocaust survivors and printing it out causes solar flares... *on planets.*

IT BEGGARS THE IMAGINATION!!

My favorite threads on JC involve two things:

01. TDarcos claiming it is inmature to call people names.

02. TDarcos calling people names.

Absolutely. Otherwise you'd have said it with the first message and stopped all the "natter". If it's that important to you - which it was when you stated that I "crossed a line" - you should be able to succinctly come to the point. You seem to have problems with my long speeches, yet you yourself seem to be unable to simply say, in one message, in perhaps 10 lines, what is wrong.

As for the rest of your message, I'm not sure whether you're saying I'm the Zodiac killer or you are. And I have no idea who Voynich is.

Well, yes it is. Unless they're good names. Usually name-calling is a clear sign that you have exceeded your intelligence and are unable to engage in rational discussion, or you've allowed the person to get your goat and given them power.

The exception is when the other person either calls you names first, or challenges you to a brawl, then it's open season.
