It was, and still is full of bugs. Your followers get stuck everywhere, you shoot enemies from afar and their friends don't even react to it, you do stuff in the world and it's not recognized by NPCs that you did so, after 10 hours of gameplay you're in god mode where you're so overpowered that nothing can kill you, etc, etc.Ice Cream Jonsey wrote:I thought Fallout 3 was relatively bug free, except when it crashed on me at the end. (I needed to get a whole new PC to play it, luckily it saved my game.)
I'm not talking crashes here. I'm talking in-game gameplay bugs. It's full of it to this day. Bethesda never gets this right. And they probably never will.

Ehm... how old is your kid? You should probably know that this is one of the goriest games ever created. It's rated "mature" and "18+" in all regions. Although the gore is so extreme and over the top, that it's actually comical (which was the intention of the developers,) you still might want to take a look at what your kid is playing on that xbox :-PAArdvark wrote:My kid is playing that on his Xbox, I'll have to ask him about it.
To me, the gore is comical:

But you can also do some very disturbing things in it:

I have now tweaked my character's appearance to the maximum. Meet Mrs. Fuckface. (If you name your character "Fuckface", your robot companion will actually call you that during the game. "Ah, Mrs. Fuckface, how are you." British accent.):
As mentioned already, she's a muscular porn star with a scar, and I will play through the entire game with those clothes (unless something fancier becomes available.) I'm doing a melee and hand-to-hand combat character build and I will use the "Bloody Mess" perk/skill to allow dismemberment with bare hands.
Yes, I am weird like that.
See you all in 2016. Hopefully.

He just got married in August and is a robust 27 years old. I think he can handle the game. Calling him 'the kid' or 'my boy' is just a habit designed to keep me from feeling fossilized.
I thought Bioshock was too gory, he loved it. But I also thought Winnie-the-Poo Teaches Arithmetic was too gory.

Just watched the videos, yeah, he'll love it. I hate zombie games. Or games with zombies and mutants and shit in them.
What was that zombie game that took place in a mall and the main character could stick a shower-head in the top of a zombie and watch it shower it's blood all over itself?
Wolfenstein was cool.... until the mutants showed up
Far Cry was cool...until the mutants showed up
Call of Duty was cool....until the zombies showed up.

That's the "Dead Rising" series. It's a comedy-action-zombie thingy.AArdvark wrote:What was that zombie game that took place in a mall and the main character could stick a shower-head in the top of a zombie and watch it shower it's blood all over itself?
And my character isn't working out. It was immediately clear that the dialogue in the game is not funny or diverse enough to make Mrs. Fuckface work. You cannot play a serial killer porn star in this game in a believable manner.
OK. New plan. I will try Mr. Heisenberg instead:
It will be a chemist and intelligence-based character build. And I will use the Syringer as the weapon of choice (it shoots syringes filled with drugs that the character needs to cook himself.) Selling chems will be the only source of making money. Rule #1: the character will NEVER use those chems himself. Only sell them.
This ought to work. This is a good plan.

Yes. I prefer seeing a gorgeous woman murdered in slow motion a million times as I play these things. If I were better at games I'd make the avatars look like you pal, if I were really good and never died they'd all look like me.Jizaboz wrote:Am I the only one that likes creating characters in games that look like myself or older versions of myself?

Never occurred to me to do that. I think I treat every RPG (OK, FO4 isn't really an RPG, but it's close) like D&D. I want to have a weird character, and make choices that I wouldn't do in real life.Jizaboz wrote:Am I the only one that likes creating characters in games that look like myself or older versions of myself?
I set some rules beforehand for that character with a bunch of "no-no" things. Sometimes it's weird things. Like "this char hates dogs. Whenever I see a dog, I have to try to kill it to the best of my ability." Or "this char is so arrogant that I will never use sneak/stealth. I will always clearly announce my presence in a 'hi, I'm here to kill you all' way."
(I don't hate dogs in real life.)
Now the problem with FO4 is that the choices you can make in it have been dumbed down. The game only gives you the illusion of choice most of the time. Contrary to previous Fallout games, you don't actually have a say in what happens in this one. You either follow the path that's been set for you, or you don't progress at all. So it's not really an RPG anymore. It's more like Call of Duty with some RPG-like character statistics and Minecraft-like building. (They really adopted the "for the masses" game design philosophy with this one. Probably someone wearing a $5000 suit forced that on the designers.) I'm somewhat disappointed.
