I notice most of them are web-based. Are they writing them using PHP or Javascript, or is it that there are web-based interpreters for some interactive fiction authoring systems?

They are writing them in Twine, which makes games immediately playable on the web. Some of the others are written in Inform 7, the programs of which can also be played on the web.

I'm not into visual novels. Especially without the visuals. (Especially schoolgirls and tentacles.)

This what "Interactive Fiction" has become now.

I'm done with it.

Okay, let's focus our efforts on getting Paul to play 5 games and vote this year.

NOTE TO ANYONE LINKED TO THIS THREAD: This is not a "shit-stirring" thread. This is a thread, one among many, where we pay Paul (Tdarcos) to do things outside of his comfort zone. Paul, a crack programmer of the 70s and 80s, has had some medical problems that the BBS tries to help him out with, and I think this would be a good venture.

So you weren't kidding around about sending Paul a steam game if him and me were able to come to a reasonable conclusion on that one topic?

Sorry Paul.

Get up to speed, rookie. We've ordered Paul pizzas, ICJ has paid him close to a living wage for testing/programming tasks. Flack just got him a pallet of candy.

We don't fuck around when it comes to Paul.

It was a carton, not a pallet. One box, 24 items.

Well of course not, I'm not gay.

I do like that you have just given up and admitted that having an open mind on this BBS is impossible. That ... that is the forum's gift to me.

You're not fooling anyone Jonsey, I saw your "Get Lamp" interview!

No matter how innocent you tried to portray yourself, your eyes still betrayed you with their 1,000 yard stare.

At least that's better than Pinback, who has the soul of one!

I'm beginning to think you are right on that one.

I...I didn't even know until I started watching the rest of your youtube videos how bad your situation really was...I hadn't of cried that hard since my dog died when I was 8.

pinback however knows your situation, that is seriously fucked up of him. I'd start attacking him instead on this forum, but the way my luck has been going here, the unlucky son of a bitch probably doesn't have a lower jaw which causes him to drool all day on the keyboard stylus he had fused into one of his stump appendages.

My impression of pinback is that he cares way more than anyone else but is very good at hiding it.

He's like a tsundere, except we don't get to see his panties at the end.

I feel you are correct here.

The first thing I thought of when I first heard the moniker "pinback" was needle erotica, and I just looked it up, and it turns out it is the name of some shit band, but you could probably type in anything and it will come up as the name of some shit band, so then I looked up needle erotica to even see if that is even a thing. Much to my dismay, it is in fact a very real thing.

Sorry, I should not have said that. I didn't mean it, I just have a difficult time not impulsively saying offensive things to people for no reason.

Also, since I am going to be going back to look at this post often and reflecting why it is I do that, I would like to post this video so that I have something to listen to while that is happening:

We're thirty posts in and not one of you fake users have played an IF comp game. Play ONE game from any of the over 20 comps and report back. ONE of you, play ONE game from any of the comps.

One of you out there, tell us that you have PREVIOUSLY played ANY kind of game before.

Something. Anything. God.

How many actual text adventures are in the comp this year? I didn't try to find out in order to avoid disappointment.
